WHAT TO KNOW

Grammar schools in the UK are selective  ie, they only admit the brightest students through an exam selection process called the eleven plus exams.

  The eleven plus exams syllabus varies remarkably from the national curriculum and thus a seemingly bright student in a state school might not pass the exams because of the nature and format of the questions asked.

The subjects taken are ; English, Maths and Verbal Reasoning.

The early start tuition will expose your child to the various subjects and the formats used to take these exams. Preparation time is averagely 12months to the exam date which is usually in November or December of the year preceding entry into secondary. This in effect means that children should be prepared by the end of year 5.

WHEN TO START PREPARING?

The best time to start preparing your child is when your child is in year 4 (ie usually between the ages of 8 and 9 years old.

This will give the child a more relaxed spread out scheme of work. It usually has  higher success rates as the child has ample time to revise practice test and do several mock tests before the actual test date.

EASY GUIDE STEPS;

1.Access your child

-Speak with your childs teacher for an honest opinion of your childs abilities

-use past questions to test your child

-use 70-75% as a rough guide

-ask an experienced assesor to assess for you

2.Research schools and Selection process

- Use Ofsted reports

- Attend open days

3. Prepare

-Set targets
